FEATURE | Crafting mandala for artistry and space with Adelaida Guia

When yarn and hook find their way into the hands of a creator, a universe is born.

Adelaida Guia, a 54-year old born and raised in Lucban, Quezon is a crocheter known for her giant mandalas—a round-shaped design with repeating circular crochet stitches. The word ‘mandala’ means circle or center, and in Buddhism and Hinduism, the geometric design represents the universe.

Being an artist is nothing new to Adelaida, but like any other artist, she has a story to tell—experiences that have woven the artistic world of her own she chose to create.

Those patterns blossomed into something monumental—the ‘Largest Crochet Mandala,’ a masterpiece that qualified Guia for The Guinness Book of World Records. Her artistry extends beyond the stitches of a record-breaking work; creating a space where young artists can find inspiration, creativity, and courage to pursue their own crafts.
